“Great Cinematography cannot be accomplished without a talented 1st AC.” (Justin Jackola, Director at JJack Productions).

Hi everyone and thanks for joining us here at Exposing the Crew: A Place for Chicago-made Short Films!

This week’s ETC HIGHLIGHT is the trailer for “The Evolution of a Gen-X Music Purchaser”, currently running at film festivals.  Written and Directed by Jack Marchetti, a young Gen-X man chronicles his music purchasing habits from his young teens to adult years and how it paralleled with his life.

The constant movement in this film needs a 1st Assistant Camera with experience in order to  judge distances accurately.  He/She must know when and how to focus and refocus the camera lens as actors move within each frame.  That is why we chose to EXPOSE the talent of, Aaron Edwards.

In order to maintain accuracy throughout the shoot, the DP must be able to rely on the 1st Assistant Camera to be their right hand (or in this case, extra set of hands AND eyes).  When choosing a 1st AC, the DP tends to have an AC that they prefer to work with.  This decision is based on experience, reliability, trust, and a great deal of knowledge.

Thank you for watching this weeks “EXPOSED” short film, and reading our new blog Exposing the Crew: A Place for Chicago-made Short Films!

See you next Tuesday!
