A “3D Modeler” is a person who uses software to create a virtual three-dimensional model of some physical object.

Hi everyone and thanks for joining us here at Exposing the Crew: A Place for Chicago-made Short Films! This weeks ETC HIGHLIGHT focuses on the 3D Modeling of the short film War Again. This cartoon style, music video animation highlights the 3D Modeling talent of this weeks crew member, Tate Chmliewski, and his tastefully exaggerated style. A 3D modeler isn’t worried about motion, they’re worried about creating the objects that will later be given motion by the Animators. That includes the cars, characters, instruments, weapons, etc. in this film. None of the “objects” in this film were recorded or captured with a camera, they were manufactured in a modeling software.

“The cars in it were originally modeled with a realistic look and then got exaggerated proportions.”

-Tate Chmliewski

Chmliewski does a particularly grand job at creating cartoon like 3D objects that maintain a realistic feel. An appropriate pairing with the war-like plot of this short. This project also provided Chmliewski the opportunity to create a lot of fun objects.

“I enjoyed creating the army jeep with its massive pile of weapons. As well as making each of the band members into 3d cartoon characters.”
