An “Editor” is the person who crafts filmed scenes into coherent sequences that ensure the story effortlessly flows from start to finish.
Hi everyone and thanks for joining us here at Exposing the Crew: A Place for Chicago-made Short Films!
This week’s ETC HIGHLIGHT is Auteur.
“An editor can take a viewer on an amazingly mysterious journey by strategically splicing together images, that seem random, to tell a amazingly succinct story.” (Justin Jackola, Director at JJack Productions).
Three filmmakers were sent to Washington DC in January for work, as the event was coming to an end, Winter Storm Jonas hit hard. “There we were, three filmmakers stuck in a snowstorm with a RED Epic. Knowing we would be failures as young filmmakers if we didn’t act, we threw together a story that would fit in a familiar yet flexible medium – a trailer”, stated this week’s ETC EXPOSED crew member Greg Krajewski.
Finding the right music to construct the story is the first thing Greg did when editing this film. He used an online music licensing service The Music Bed, stating that they are “the best resource”, and “they made the whole process super easy.” Once that perfect song was selected, he started by “…laying down the dialogue and important points creating a story cut, then filling in the rest of the b-roll from there.”
This entire project was conceived, filmed, and edited in about 48 hours.
Thank you for watching this week’s “EXPOSED” short film, and reading our new blog Exposing the Crew: A Place for Chicago-made Short Films!
See you next Tuesday!
