The role of an Assistant Director on a film includes tracking daily progress against the filming production schedule, arranging logistics, preparing daily call sheets, checking cast and crew, and maintaining order on the set.
Hi everyone and thanks for checking out this weeks Exposing the Crew short film! This weeks ETC HIGHLIGHT focuses on the praise worthy 1st assisting directing work on the short film The After Party (starring David Pasquesi and Sue Gillan) One read through, a day of prep, and a single shoot day was all Katie Ray needed to rock out her 1st AD skills on the set of this weeks highlighted short film. The most important aspect of the Assistant Director (listed above) is their ability to “maintain order on the set”. The ultimate toolkit for all Assistant Director is a watch, a schedule, and a spine.
“The 1st AD helps steer the boat by making sure everyone has all the info they need, and everyone’s on the same page.”
One of my favorite parts about writing our Exposing the Crew blog is when a crew gives us a enthusiastic suggestion on what member we should highlight from their project. Without hesitation Katie Ray’s name was praised because of her appreciated efforts on the above short film.
Thank you Katie Ray for helping create such a unique short film for our viewers this week. If you need a rock solid 1st AD then feel free to contact her at email@example.com
We’d also like to thank Producer Mallory Sohmer, for her contribution and submission of this project. www.mallorysohmer.com
